County level renewable energy planning – training facilitation
This training project for the UNIDO and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) provided tools and training for local trainers and energy planners of 47 Kenyan counties. Training was executed in August 2016 has led to County level renewable energy plans.
Bioethanol cooking in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Assisted UNIDO by developing a detailed bioethanol cook stove roll out project design under the GEF-6 cycle in collaboration with the Division of Environment–VPO and the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Tanzania. The project will harness private industry to deliver, through an innovative market enabling framework that will see the roll out of 500,000 bioethanol cooking stoves Dar es Salaam and the simultaneous development of bioethanol manufacturing capacity over 5 years.
5MW electrical mini grid conceptual design and development
Full design for UNIDO of a mini-grid, which when implemented will supply a local industrial, commercial and residential customer base with electricity purchased on a wholesale basis from a 5MW rice husk based generation plant. Activities included; the onsite gathering of market data (customer type, expected usage levels load profiles, sales forecasts), detailed design of the distribution company (size, tariffs, operating guidelines, staffing), a business plan for implementation by the Distribution Company and develop of the tender specification for the mini grid technical design.
Expert work on mini-girds community power centres for UNIDO
As part of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) developments in East Africa, a detailed guidebook on the establishment of mini-grids was prepared and presented on behalf of UNIDO. Aspects address include; planning, sizing, ownership, market policies, revenue generation, operational activities, sustainability and overall governance. Secondly commercial operational plans were prepared for two hydro supplied mini-grids in Tanzania.
